There is a version of depression that doesn’t stop your life; it just quietly drains it.
In this episode, Jacqueline Johnson opens up a needed conversation around functioning depression in Caribbean women, the kind that hides behind productivity, responsibility, and “holding it together.” This isn’t about not showing up; it’s about showing up while feeling disconnected, exhausted, and slowly losing touch with yourself.
We get into what this actually looks like for high-achieving women, for single women, and for women raising children while carrying emotional and mental loads that often go unseen.
This episode goes deeper into the real drivers behind it, including chronic stress, emotional suppression, and role overload, and how these patterns don’t just affect your internal state but begin to shape your relationships, your boundaries, and the decisions you make when you are running on empty.
This is not just a conversation about what’s wrong; it’s about what is possible, how to begin reconnecting with yourself, how to rebuild your emotional capacity, and how to return to a life you are not just managing, but actually present in.
And for those leaning on faith, this episode gently brings you back to the reminder that God meets you even in the quiet, functioning kind of brokenness.
What We Talk About
What functioning depression actually looks like beyond the stereotypes
Why high-achieving women are more at risk of masking it
The impact of chronic stress on the brain and body
Emotional suppression and how unprocessed feelings build over time
Role overload and the silent burnout many women normalize
Losing interest in things you once loved and what that really means
How depletion affects your relationships and boundaries
Why you may tolerate more or go with the flow when you’re not fully present
Practical ways to begin restoring your energy and emotional clarity
Returning to God as a source of strength and renewal
A Real Moment From This Episode
“When something that once felt like purpose starts to feel like pressure, you begin to question not just the work, but yourself.”
Scripture Reflection
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.” — Isaiah 40:31

A Gentle Guide to Women’s Health in the Caribbean
Friday Apr 10, 2026
Friday Apr 10, 2026
Too many Caribbean women have been taught to live with discomfort, normalize pain, and put their health last.
From painful periods to hormonal imbalances, fibroids, and fertility challenges, the conversation around women’s health has often been quiet, misunderstood, or delayed until something goes wrong.
But that has to change.
In this episode of TheBeyondWoman Conversations Podcast, we sit down with Dr. Rachel Corridon, obstetrician and gynecologist, and founder of Harmony Health, also known as “Your Gentle Gynecologist.”
She’s redefining what women’s healthcare can feel like — more compassionate, more informed, and rooted in dignity and choice.
This is not just a medical conversation. It’s a necessary one.
What We Talk About
Why have so many Caribbean women been conditioned to normalize pain
The truth about fibroids and why they are so common among Black and Caribbean women
What a compassionate, patient-centered approach to gynecological care really looks like
How to overcome fear and start viewing doctor visits as a form of self-care
Understanding PCOS, fertility challenges, and the role of lifestyle in reproductive health
Early warning signs you should never ignore when it comes to your body
What does “Your body. Your baby. Your way.” really mean for pregnancy and birth choices
The reality of balancing health while being everything to everyone
Gaps in women’s healthcare across the Caribbean and what needs to change
Simple, practical steps every woman can start taking to better care for her health
Why This Conversation Matters
When women don’t have the right information, we delay care. When we delay care, we live longer with discomfort, confusion, and sometimes preventable complications.
This episode is a reminder that:
You are allowed to ask questions. You are allowed to seek answers. And you are allowed to prioritize your health without guilt.

In this episode of TheBeyondWoman Conversations Podcast, Jacqueline sits down with Dr. Kerriann Peart for a conversation on leadership, burnout, perimenopause, and the evolving professional identity of Caribbean women.
Across the world, research from McKinsey & Company and LeanIn.Org shows women leaders report significantly higher levels of burnout than their male counterparts. While studies from Deloitte also reveal that nearly half of women say they feel burned out at work.
But statistics alone will not tell the complete story.
In this conversation, Jacqueline also shares her experience navigating a period of burnout while leading. A time when she felt creatively drained, disconnected, and unsure how to articulate what she was going through.
The episode also explores the often unspoken impact of perimenopause on mental health and professional identity, a reality many women face but rarely discuss openly. Together, Jacqueline and Dr. Peart will try to unpack how Caribbean women can begin to understand these transitions with the right language, empathy, and awareness.
This is not just a leadership conversation.
It’s a whole-woman conversation.
About Our Guest
Dr. Kerriann Peart is a trusted voice on leadership, burnout, and professional well-being, particularly for women navigating complex organizational environments. With a background in organizational psychology, public health, and executive coaching, she brings both academic insight and lived leadership experience to her work.
She challenges traditional ideas of high performance that prioritize output over people, instead helping leaders develop the clarity, cultural awareness, and emotional intelligence needed to lead effectively in demanding environments.
Dr. Peart works with executives, managers, and professional women across the Caribbean and the diaspora, encouraging leaders to rethink how success is defined and sustained.
The Beyond Woman Listener Challenge
Before you move on with your day, take 10 quiet minutes to check in with yourself and honestly reflect on these three questions:
Am I simply tired, or am I actually burned out?
What has my mind or body been trying to tell me that I’ve been ignoring?
What is one small thing I can do this week to care for myself better?
There is no pressure to have perfect answers. The challenge is to pause, reflect, and be honest with yourself

Women and Gatekeeping — How It Keeps Us Back Rather Than Helps Us Forward
Saturday Jan 24, 2026
Saturday Jan 24, 2026
Gatekeeping doesn’t always look like exclusion. Sometimes it looks like silence, withheld information, or opportunities that never get shared.
In this solo episode of TheBeyondWoman Conversations Podcast, host Jacqueline Johnson explores how gatekeeping — especially among women — quietly limits growth, leadership, and collective success. Grounded in real-world experience, Caribbean context, and research-backed insight, this episode challenges the scarcity mindset many women were conditioned to adopt and offers a healthier, more sustainable alternative.
This is not a conversation about blame. It’s about awareness, responsibility, and building a culture where women don’t just rise — they rise together.
What We Cover in This Episode
What gatekeeping really looks like in women’s spaces (and why it often goes unnoticed)
The historical and cultural roots of scarcity thinking among women
Why access, networks, and sponsorship matter more than talent alone
Research-backed insights on how collaboration improves leadership outcomes and mental health
Real-life examples of gatekeeping in workplaces, business, and community spaces
The growing counterculture of women who “gate-open” instead of gatekeeping
The difference between mentorship and sponsorship — and why both matter
The personal and economic benefits of letting go of gatekeeping
Practical, actionable ways to build supportive, high-achieving women’s communities
References
World Bank data on women’s workforce participation and leadership gaps
Harvard-affiliated research on networks, sponsorship, and career advancement
UN Women insights on gender, access, and economic inclusion
Caribbean-specific realities around informal networks and opportunity flow
(References discussed conversationally during the episode)
Gatekeeping may feel like protection in the moment, but over time it limits impact, isolates leadership, and slows collective progress. Real power isn’t holding the key. It’s changing who gets access in the first place.
Listener Challenge
This week:
Speak a woman’s name in a room she’s not in
Share an opportunity you could have kept to yourself
Make one introduction that costs you nothing but could change everything
That’s how cultures shift. That’s how power moves.

Wednesday Oct 29, 2025
This week on The BeyondWoman Conversations, we open the floor to a subject that often stays buried beneath strength and silence — the emotional, mental, and relational weight that men carry but rarely speak of.
Our guests — Faith Waltson, Barry Groves, and Coach Jherrel Peters — share honest reflections and expert insight on how expectations, love, pain, and pressure shape the inner lives of men.
We experienced a minor technical issue at the outset (real-life moments happen!), but the essence of this dialogue quickly takes center stage. What follows is an eye-opening, truth-telling exchange that challenges stereotypes, encourages vulnerability, and reminds us that healing and understanding are a two-way process.
As we acknowledge Depression Awareness Month, this episode feels especially timely. Statistics continue to show rising rates of depression among men, many of whom suffer in silence. This conversation is our small way of breaking that silence, reminding men (and those who love them) that vulnerability is not weakness, and healing begins when we dare to speak.
🎧 Listen now to “The Weight He Doesn’t Speak Of” — a raw, real, and necessary conversation on the pain, pressure, and love men carry in silence.
